Once Upon a Screen is a collaborative videographic project started by Evelyn Kreutzer and myself in 2019.
The first volume of the project consisted of 9 video essays dedicated to personal explorations of childhood screen traumas. The videos were published in Fall 2020 as issue 15 of The Cine-Files, and were featured prominently on Sight & Sound's poll for the best video essays of 2020 (and mentioned on the previous year's poll as well).
The second volume consists of 16 video essays that collaboratively explore formative screen memories. The videos were published in two instalments of [in]Transition: Journal of Videographic Film & Moving Image Studies; the first issue was published in December 2022; the second issue was published in February 2023. Videos from this second volume were featured prominently on Sight & Sound's poll for the best video essays of 2022.
