Parametric Summer Series

The 2024 Parametric Summer Series was an online videographic workshop I organized over June-August 2024. For the workshop, four parametric exercise prompts were used, each derived from an existing piece of videographic scholarship that informed a set of constraints meant to encourage the creation of further works that respond to and engage with that original work. In all, 70 new videos were created by the participants of the Summer Series.

The detailed instructions for these exercises, with relevant links and suggested citational guide, can be found here.

Exercise #1, "Grant's Constraint", was derived from Catherine Grant’s video, “Satis House” (2020); examples can be find here.

Exercise #2, "Payne's Constraint", developed by Alan O'Leary, was derived from Matt Payne’s “Who Ever Heard?...” (2020); examples can be find here.

Exercise #3, "Warr's Constraint", was derived from Nick Warr’s video, “Honolulu Mon Amour” (2014); examples can be find here.

Exercise #4, "Laird's Constraint", was derived from Colleen Laird’s video, “Eye-Camera-Ninagawa” (2022); examples can be find here.
